At Farmer Jo, we’ve always believed that breakfast should be an experience, not just a meal. That's why we're beyond excited to unveil our latest creation: the Ostro Granola—Matcha, Strawberry & Almond, brought to life in collaboration with renowned cook and food writer Julia Busuttil Nishimura. This limited edition granola is more than just a breakfast staple; it’s a celebration of flavor, artistry, and culinary inspiration that promises to redefine your morning routine.

Inspired by Japan, Perfected by Julia

Julia’s passion for Japanese patisserie culture served as the muse for this one-of-a-kind granola. “This flavour is inspired by a matcha sponge cake I had in Japan while visiting family. It was filled with white chocolate cream and the most incredible strawberries—it’s one of the best things I’ve ever eaten,” Julia reminisces. The result? A granola that blends the earthy richness of ceremonial grade matcha, the sweetness of ripe strawberries, and the satisfying crunch of organic almonds from Mandolé Orchard, all roasted to perfection by the Farmer Jo team.

From Japan to Your Breakfast Bowl

The Ostro Granola is not just a nod to Japanese flavours; it's a tribute to the magic that happens when tradition meets innovation. Imagine starting your day with a bowl of granola that tastes like a Japanese patisserie, with matcha's deep, complex notes harmonizing with the brightness of strawberries and the creamy undertones of white chocolate. And the best part? It’s as versatile as it is delicious. Enjoy it with cold milk, sprinkle it over yogurt, or even indulge in it as a crunchy topping for desserts.

A Dream Collaboration

For us at Farmer Jo, working with Julia has been a dream come true. “We’ve been huge fans of Julia for a long time, and teaming up with her to create this special granola has been an incredible journey,” says Farmer Jo co-founder Sally Tulloch. From sourcing the highest quality ingredients, including ceremonial grade matcha and Hunted & Gathered white chocolate, to perfecting the recipe together, this collaboration truly reflects a shared love for creating food that delights and surprises.

Julia shares our excitement, saying, “Japan has some of the most amazing patisseries in the world, and I’m always inspired every time I visit. Matcha is such a beautiful ingredient, and it’s great to highlight it in this way.”

Artistry Beyond the Bowl

What makes this collaboration even more special is the stunning packaging, featuring artwork by Tokyo-based illustrator Grace Lee. Julia’s vision was to capture the essence of the matcha sponge cake that inspired the granola, and Grace’s vibrant, playful style was the perfect match. “Her work is colorful and fun, and I knew she’d be perfect to capture the spirit of the cake through her illustration,” Julia explains.
